- The Windsor Report (PDF)
The Windsor Report is the result of the "The Lambeth Commission on Communion" which was established by the Archbishop of Canterbury in October 2003, following the special Primates' Meeting convened that month in Lambeth Palace to discuss recent developments in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (now referred to as The Episcopal Church) and in the Anglican Church of Canada that were of a controversial nature and that "have uncovered major divisions throughout the Anglican Communion." The Windsor Report articulates the Communion's theology on pertinent topics and makes unanimous recommendations for The Episcopal Church correct its divisive actions in connection with its 2006 General Convention.
- Letter to Bishop Lee from the Wardens at The Falls Church, October 2005
This is an eight-page letter sent to Bishop Peter Lee in October 2005 from the senior warden and junior warden (Sam Thomsen and Teri Ballou, respectively) of The Falls Church in northern Virginia. It repeats an appeal made earlier about the "errors" of the 2003 General Convention on matters of sexual purity and the Bible's teachings about it.
Among other things, the letter takes issue with Bishop Lee's interpretations of Jesus' tendency toward inclusion and welcome asserting they constitute a "selective and and careless exegesis that could be invoked to condone any sin, sexual or otherwise."
- Letter to Bishop Lee from the Wardens and the Rector at The Falls Church, June 2006 (PDF)
About two weeks before the General Convention in Columbus, Ohio, senior warden Tom Wilson and junior warden Carol Jackson, along with the Rev. John Yates, Rector, sent this letter to Bishop Lee to affirm the church's desire, expressed in an earlier letter (see below) and during an in-person meeting which followed. It requests that he publicly withdraw his endorsement of, and any role in, the consecration of a person to the episcopate whose lifestyle is in direct disobedience to scriptural teaching.
At the Convention, Katherine Jefferts Schori was elected to become the new presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church in the U.S.
- Can Two Walk Together, Except They Be Agreed, June 2006 (PDF)
The 18-member vestry at The Falls Church wrote and circulated this 28-page booklet to the congregation shortly before the 2006 General Convention in Columbus, Ohio to answer questions such as:
- What is the real issue that divides The Episcopal Church?
- What do we believe about the Bible?
- What does the Bible teach about sexual morality?
- How as The Episcopal Church treated this Biblical teaching?
- How should Christian respond to error on an important matter?
- How has our Bishop treated orthodox believers in the Virginia diocese?
- Are we being self-righteous to press this issue?
- What are the possibilities for our future relationship with The Episcopal Church in the U.S.?
- How would we know if it were time to "walk part?"
- What the Anglican Communion Has Required of Us, September 2006 (PDF)
With a goal of crystallizing several key tenets of the Windsor Report, this is a summary of the Report's recommendations and responses to those recommendations since 2004 along with related actions by the 38 Primates (one for each member church, including The Episcopal Church in the U.S.) and the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC).
